Particle physics is a branch of physics that studies the elementary constituents of matter and radiation, and the interactions between them. It is also called high energy physics, because many elementary particles do not occur under normal circumstances in nature, but can be created and detected during energetic collisions of other particles, as is done in particle accelerators. Research in this area has produced a long list of particles.

in particular this long list of particles...is more so connected with the forces that they are connected to. Every force has an elementary particle thats associated with it. and your exactly right about the particle accelerators like the LHC IN GENEVA THAT smashes particles...whats even more important is the fact that the particles that are a result of this collision never actually existed within the protons that are being smashed..all the elementary particles are the product of nothing if that makes any sense, it should make sense to u physicists but i will explain if need be my friends..
